Bildad’s third speech
25
Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said
2 📚“Dominion and awe belong to God. He makes peace in his high places. 3 📚Is there any number to his armies? Upon whom does his light not arise? 4 📚How then can a man be righteous before God? Or how can one born of woman be pure? 5 📚In his sight, if even the moon lacks brightness, yes, if the stars are not pure, 6 📚How much less man, who is but a maggot, and a son of man, who is a worm?”
25:1-6 This is the third and last speech of Bildad. He has nothing new to say. He completely ignores the facts Job has given. Bildad has two points – God is very great, and compared to God’s holiness no created thing, and certainly not man, can be considered righteous and pure. All very true, but it does not speak to the point Job has raised. The last remarks of Bildad are in opposition to Job’s claim of righteousness (Job 23:10-12). These are the last recorded words of Job’s three friends. They do not stop talking because they are convinced of their error, but because they see Job will not accept what they say about him.⚜
